NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY

By Robert Frost

Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

How well written by the great poet, long ago, when he had already predicted the pathetic state of the world environment in coming future, when nature will be in lurch.

Envisaging the situation and to nurture the cognitive development of students, Queen of Angels’ Convent School organized the Eco Club which was inaugurated on 16th November 2023 by the Principal, Sr. Edwina, who guided students of Std. X to plant saplings on the School Ground, as a part of their SUPW project. The gardener, Shri Dilipbhai Bhimsangbhai, assisted them and also explained the frequency and method of watering them. Sr. Edwina, later, took the students to the Green House (at the entrance) of the school to introduce them to various types of plants including medicinal and flowering plants. Before dispersing, she advised students to observe the growth of the saplings planted by them.

After a month or two, the place turned into heavenly green paradise, when the small saplings matured to give back it’s produce. Yes, there bloomed the purple cabbages, broccoli, tomatoes, chilies and other vegetables. It seemed like Mother Earth has sprinkled essence of her beauty at the school. Students from Std. I to XII were taken to the field of veggies which took them to surprise and awe, since they had never seen such a sight. Each one, truly enjoyed the scenic beauty of real vegetables.

Later, students of Std. IX and XI too were encouraged to sow seeds and saplings as SUPW project. Now, we need to wait and watch to see them grow to enjoy the final fruit.

It was a mini-excursion for students of Std. I on 17th February 2024, as they marched towards the School Convent Garden to view the earthly paradise filled with fresh and crispy vegetables. A glimpse for the first time in their life, each child literally touched and felt the morning dew on the veggies, a touch to experience the feelings they have never come across. Their mouth wide open in surprise as fruits like love apples were plucked and offered to them by Sr. Maxilina Fernandes. They will forever remember the sight, touch and taste of real nature’s produce.
