Prevention is better than cure.’, is an excellent expression which carries logic and wisdom apart from a marvelous mission. We cannot ignore precaution to avoid a fatal disaster, it’s too tough to eliminate. However, we have the freedom to choose between accident and safety measure, thus making the right decision at the right time before it’s too late.

‘Traffic Awareness Programme’ was conducted for the students of Std. VIII to XII on 19th June 2024 at the School Sports Complex at 11 hours. The guest speaker was the Police Inspector, Smt. B. L. Maheriya with a team of police personnel. Queen of Angels’ Convent School was their first pick to begin the awareness drive, since they have been closely associated with the institution for a long time. The session began with an introduction and felicitating the guest with a sapling and a floral welcome to the police team, followed by invoking Lord’s blessings.

Later, Mrs. B. L. Maheriya took over the dais to begin the session and gave a brief history of her background, traffic being her specialized area. Points covered were as follows:

  • Cyber crime has been increasing alarmingly because of children’s addiction to mobile. Every child should be careful while using it and should be done only under parental guidance, only for educational purpose. Special care has to be taken while sharing the OTP.

  • Traffic awareness is the need of the hour because of use of vehicle by under aged children, especially students below 18 years. The time has come to convey message to parents, to follow and spread traffic awareness.

  • Because of small mistakes either from the driver’s side or the other, leads to fatal road accidents resulting in injury, minor or major or even death. Consequence of accident scene looks very dangerous and horrifying when bodies are cut into pieces.

  • Learning licence should be used in manner, not to be considered as permanent licence. Going by wrong side is prohibited and would prove expensive when someone overtakes at that time. Loss can be of any body organ in addition to permanent scar marks on face, thus disfiguring oneself. Loss of such organs can be replaced. However, brain injury can never be treated, thus making a person permanently bedridden or in coma.

  • Use of safety helmet should be compulsory which protects one’s head. The helmet should be of correct size and brand product. It acts as the first line of defense against head injury, but they only work when they are worn correctly. The guest speaker gave an example of one of her relatives who was on sports bike and met with a fatal accident that led to major injury, but managed to save his head because of helmet. As said earlier, that any body part can be replaced with an artificial one but not brain.

  • Seat belt should be worn by default by every driver. The reason for the same, when asked, was explained in detail by Master Priyanshu Modi, Std XI.

  • Focus was also on U-turn which should be taken with due care, and not in a hurry. Proper guidance was given in this regard.

  • The message conveyed to students should be carried home and conveyed to parents, van drivers and all others in the community. ‘Buy a helmet for yourself, father, not need of dress for me.’ was the concluding message to the students. After all they are the future responsible citizen who will take the country ahead in right direction. Self discipline is important.

  • Lastly, Shri Alpendrasinh displayed slides and pamphlets were distributed on traffic awareness to enhance the knowledge on the subject.

  • The session ended with vote of thanks expressed by the Student Council of Std. XI followed by National Anthem.
